Bovik Organic Farm in Tammisaari, Raseborg, focuses on native livestock breeds – Finnsheep and Eastern Finncattle. It’s the largest regenerative farm in Uusimaa to raise animals on pasture, with their grazing helping maintain the region’s biodiversity and landscapes. Animals are raised for meat, and in winter they are fed organic feed and fodder. The farm also makes use of Finnsheep fur, turning it into yarn and hides.

Hauhala Goose Farm, in Anttola, is one of the largest goose farms in Finland. Everything happens on site, from hatching the chicks to slaughter and processing into pâtés and canned goods, so the geese are never transported. The farm’s 11 hectares are used for pasture and to grow their own fodder. Nothing goes to waste: blood and fat are fully utilised in the kitchen, and feathers are turned into pillows and blankets locally in Riihimäki.

Hongola Gård, owned by the Furuhjelm family, is an organic livestock farm in Urjala. The farm has reared cattle for over 300 years on the estate’s forest pastures, and still today the cows are permitted to move around these areas freely between spring and autumn. In 2017 the family introduced Black Angus cows, a Scottish breed, which are fed only naturally grown field grass. That means that the meat is formally classified as “grass-fed beef”. The farmhouse itself dates back to the 1600s, and is said to have inspired the Under the North Star trilogy by Väinö Linna, whose mother worked in the house. Hongola Gård hosts an annual harvest festival with local artisans and producers open for visitors.

A family farm raising pigs since the 1960s, Kiven Säästöpossu handles everything on site – from growing the feed to caring for the animals and butchery. The pigs eat organic grains and legumes grown on the farm, with no soy or fish flour, and in summer they roam freely in the garden. Visitors are always welcome to come and meet them. Keeping the process entirely on the farm lets the team ensure the pigs are well cared for, with an ethical and transparent approach from start to finish.

Kuorttisen Luomukanala in Lappeenranta is one of Finland’s oldest organic chicken farms, now run by the fourth generation. For over 100 years, the family has focused on the wellbeing of their birds. The chickens are free to move indoors and outdoors and are fed with the farm’s own organic fodder — including oats, half of which comes from their fields, where they only use composted farm manure. The farm’s brilliant organic brown eggs are collected and packaged on site.

Mäkelän luomutila is an organic farm in Oitti, run by Satu and Simo Heikkinen, the second generation working the land organically. Their fields grow wheat, oat, rye, barley, spelt, peas, and fava beans. Satu and Simo mill and sell their own flours, alongside products from around 20 other organic farmers and EU-certified organic wholesale goods, supplying schools, co-ops, and customers online. The farm also manages its forests and sells wood. Since 2019, Mäkelän luomutila has run a monthly van delivery service, letting customers pick up orders along various routes without extra freight costs — making organic produce more accessible to the local community.

Malmgård Estate in Loviisa dates back to the 1600s and is now run by brothers Henrik and Fredrik Creutz, the 13th generation on the farm. Organic since 1995, Malmgård focuses on ancient grains, growing wheat, oat, rye, and barley. They mill and sell their own flours, oatmeal, and other cereal products. The farm shop also stocks regional produce and houses the Malmgård beer brewery. In summer, there’s a café on site, and visitors can explore the estate, including the mansion and the castle, to learn more about its long history.

Located in Marttila, Murtola Hemp Farm works alongside Murtola Organic Farm, focusing on organic hemp alongside peas, oats, malting barley, and clover. The farm produces high-quality Finnish hemp for food, animal feed, and natural cosmetics. The hemp is naturally rich in protein and omega fatty acids, and growing it supports soil health and sustainable farming practices.

Vakka-Taimi is a specialist seedling grower run by Vesa Muurinen. What began as a small hobby nursery has grown into a wide-ranging collection of trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials. Alongside their core nursery work, Vakka-Taimi is actively trialling nut-producing species to see how they perform in the Finnish climate. Testing and observation are a central part of their work. The Muurila gardens, first planted in the early 1990s, now host more than 80 species and are open to visitors. Throughout the year, the garden holds seasonal events such as magnolia, rose and peony days, sharing knowledge and encouraging curiosity around plants that might shape future growing in Finland.
